PCI-DSS stands for Payment Card Industry-Data Security Standards. The Card Associations have established these standards to protect merchants and cardholders from cardholder information theft. Merchants that are not compliant with the Cardholder Associations run the risk of fines, increased monitoring, and even possible revocation of the ability to process credit cards.
